Opportunity AI (OAI) is seeking a mission-driven, detail-oriented Manager of Operations and Programs to help shape the future of artificial intelligence’s impact on economic opportunity. 

About Opportunity AI

Social sector organizations devoted to enhancing economic opportunity are rapidly adapting to the AI era, both by building new AI-powered tools and evolving legacy programs. To play its necessary role to advance this work, the funder community urgently needs to adapt as well. 

Opportunity AI is a dynamic, rapidly growing funder collaborative founded to address this need. Our aim is to enhance the flow of philanthropic and other impact capital to effective interventions that increase economic opportunity and mobility. To do that, we serve our members – over 150 funder professionals drawn from over 80 philanthropy and impact investing organizations – by fostering new multi-funder collaborations, enhancing members’ technical capacity and field intelligence, and improving connectivity within the funding community and between funders and social sector AI builders. Since its founding, OAI has fostered several new multi-donor projects, hosted over 25 virtual and in-person trainings and events, and grown to become the premier funder collaborative dedicated to understanding and improving AI’s impact on economic opportunity.

About the opportunity

The Manager of Operations and Programs will play a critical role in building Opportunity AI into a flourishing organization capable of sustained impact. As just the third member of OAI’s startup team, the Manager will partner closely with the founding team to build new operational systems, support operational and programmatic needs, help chart strategy, and plan high-impact events. The role requires the ability to operate independently, plan collaboratively, and think creatively and proactively – as well as operational precision, strong writing and communication abilities, and a passion for OAI’s mission and subject matter. 

The Manager will play vital roles in ensuring the efficient functioning of OAI’s day-to-day operations and in supporting the execution of the organization’s strategic priorities. The selected candidate will design and oversee efficient workflows, draft member-facing documents and communications, plan member events, and work with colleagues at our fiscal sponsor to complete operational tasks related to financial management, contracts, and invoices. The Manager will also work closely with the Executive Director and Chief Innovation Officer to refine Opportunity AI’s strategy and to generate and track our annual, quarterly, and weekly goals. 

This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with entrepreneurial spirit who is excited for the prospect of positioning a new organization for longstanding impact. The ideal candidate will have independently led projects and managed multiple competing priorities in prior roles. 

Education and Experience Requirements

  • At least 6 years of experience managing projects or operations functions in fast-paced, mission-driven environments.
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in philanthropy, government, tech, and/or nonprofit settings. 
  • Experience managing up and partnering closely with organizational leaders.
  • Experience with creating, overseeing, and executing efficient organizational systems and workflows. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work independently, including managing multiple projects and deadlines, and to proactively identify and complete tasks. Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively across diverse teams, stakeholders, and organizational levels—both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to design and operationalize workflows and project management tools to support Opportunity AI’s priorities.
  • Comfortable using commercial AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude), with an eye toward how they could be used to increase organizational effectiveness.
  • Proficient with Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Slides). 
  • Collaborative team player with a mindset of proactively addressing team needs.
  • Very strong writing ability. 

Position Location and Travel

This position is primarily remote with occasional travel (~2-3 times/quarter) for internal meetings and member convenings / events. 

Role and Responsibilities

While responsibilities may shift in light of Opportunity AI’s status as a fast-evolving startup, we foresee the Manager owning the following key areas:

Project Management and Strategy Input

  • Help plan and facilitate annual, quarterly, and weekly organizational planning meetings. Help shape organizational strategy by participating in these meetings. Track resulting commitments in a project tracker you design and oversee.
  • Design and refine operational processes and systems to streamline collaboration and execution, including through use of AI tools. 
  • Lead planning and execution of special projects.
  • Liaise with fiscal sponsor team to ensure completion of vendor contracts and prompt and accurate payments.

Events

  • Plan 4 quarterly smaller member dinner gatherings and 2-3 larger gatherings at national conferences. Populate lists of potential venues, liaise with venue staff to request and negotiate event contracts and costs, discuss options with organizational leadership, oversee execution of contracts, and ensure events proceed smoothly. (This work may involve supervising a contract resource.) 
  • Play lead role in cooperation with external partners and vendors in planning OAI’s first flagship member gathering in July 2026.

Grant Writing, Tracking, and Compliance

  • Develop first drafts of documents due to Opportunity AI’s financial supporters, including grant applications and interim and final grant reports. Develop, maintain, and refine templates for use in such documents.
  • Liaise with colleagues at OAI’s fiscal sponsor to maintain up-to-date records of grant deliverables, timelines, budgets, and reporting requirements. and to deliver timely, accurate, and compliant grant reports.

Scheduling & Executive Support

  • Oversee scheduling of certain high-priority multi-person meetings. Deploy technical tools, as appropriate, to facilitate complex scheduling tasks. 
  • Prepare meeting agendas and minutes and track outcomes.

Communications

  • Draft occasional LinkedIn posts.

Compensation

Compensation for this full-time position is $80,000 - $90,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
